“Seven Bucks”

This album owns me right now.
Third full-length from singer/songwriter/pianist Elizabeth Shepherd, and it’s an “end to end burner” (no Co. Flow), although, some songs are more suitable for nighttime, vs. daytime appreciation. The production and songwriting is quite varied throughout 11 tracks, but no question her jazz sensibilities are at the forefront.
Some notables: the bongos on “Seven Bucks” (co-produced by Japan’s DJ Mitsu the Beats), the sublimely harmonized chorus on “Numbers”, the sedated, bass prominent “Heavy Falls The Night”, the surprising DnB rhythm on “High” with Shepherd’s echoing vocals, and a token sappy cover song, “Danny’s Song”, suited nicely as the final track.
Thank you Do Right!, one of the most slept-on labels out there, for providing that quality control.
